THE BURDEN OF IBS

IBS patients experience a significant decline in their health-related quality of life (HRQOL). The severity of symptoms correlates with the degree of impact on HRQOL. It  is measured by limitations to physical activities, social and emotional functioning, day-to-day activities and general perception of wellbeing. Fear and unpredictability of symptom occurrence also adds to the anxiety that patients often feel. The purpose of this website is to emphasize the burden of this disease, with the hopes of reducing the social stigma around bowel disorders and improving the lack of support that IBS patients often experience.
